MARY JANE (To a new arrival)

By S Daley

Mary Jane arrived today

And this is what the Toy Town people had to say:-

“Oh, good gracious, good gracious me,

She is the prettiest baby I ever did see,”

Then Mr. Plod went round the town,

Telling the people to “Come on down

And see for your self

This little wee pixie, fairy or elf.”

Noddy jumped into his little red car

”Parp, parp, parp” went the hooter “It’s not very far,

I’ll get you there without a delay

to see this baby on display.”

Everyone stood admiring the child

Lying so serenely, so meek and so mild.

Then Teddy walked up with a wink in his eye,

“If she’s not a goblin,´he said, “I’ll eat humble pie.”

Suddenly Noddy’s bell started ringing quite loud,

“Look he said, “look.” as he pushed through the crowd.

“Her ears stand straight like Big Ears for sure,

She’s not a fairy, or a pixie, but a gnome, quite pure.

“Oh no, she’s not” said Mr Wobbly man wobbling a lot,

wobbling his way right up to her cot.

“If you want my opinion, my opinion you’ll get.

She’s a real right fairy with her own opinion I’ll bet.

She’ll laugh when she wants to, she’ll cry and she’ll sneeze.

And she’ll be a good sister to Jemma Louise.

So keep you opinions all to yourself,

So keep your opinions all to yourself,

You’ll see she’s a child, not a goblin, or a pixie or an elf.

And now in Toy Town to this very day

A beautiful child has joined the array.

She has ears that are big, yet some say they’re small.

Some say she’s opinionated some say, ‘Not at all’.

But all the Town people surely agree

She’s the best of the best that you’ll ever see.

And the toys that all live in far-a-way lands

Are singing and dancing and clapping their hands.
